Johnny Rotten accused of assault

Johnny Rotten's teeth may no longer be rotten, but the same cannot be said for his attitude. The Sex Pistol is being sued by an LA television producer for sexual harassment and assault.

Rotten, who these days prefers to be called boring old John Lydon, was ridiculed this month for his $22,000 dental makeover in Los Angeles. This is perhaps unsurprising as being a punk-rock legend hardly goes hand in hand with advanced teeth-whitening technology. However, any criticisms of his approach to dental hygiene have now been superseded by the allegations of Roxane Davis, assistant producer on Bodog Battle of the Bands, on which Rotten was a judge. According to TMZ, the Los Angeles County Superior Court lawsuit describes a 2007 incident where Rotten "beat the crap out of [Davis] after calling her every horrible name in the book".

Returning to the Ritz Carlton from a television broadcast, the lawsuit states, Rotten was dissatisfied with his hotel room. He "cocked back his fist ... and punched [Davis] in the face", complaining to her that his room didn't share a door with his favourite assistant, who is charmingly named Rambo.

Rambo then joined Rotten to verbally abuse a cowed Roxane Davis. Though the incident did not result in criminal charges, Davis is now pursuing the matter in civil court.

The reformed Sex Pistols, meanwhile, continue to gallivant across the world, possibly to cover legal fees. You can admire Rotten's new teeth and nasty demeanour at the following gigs:
